i modified someones diagram from another thread one with and one without the wg coil mod
what you had was missing a power source for the relay and the starter. plus the wgmod for the coils uses a relay to direct link the coil to the battery for hottest spark.
if i'm wrong i'm sure someone will correct me

I appreciate your response and that clarified the relay greatly. Could you explain the purpose of have two sources of power for the starter solenoid? I haven't seen this on other diagrams. I see one directly from the battery and another from the relay. Am i missing something?

the main wire to the solenoid is main battery power that connects to the starter when active. the other is to activate the magnet inside the solenoid to turn it on
i just added the wire from the relay to the solenoid to show a good source of power for the wg mod

None of those diagrams will work for a 1977 KZ650 as drawn except the C1 for Johnny C. They all need various changes, and the Johnny C version uses a different ignition switch and no relay.
Let me see if I can dig one up, or just draw one from scratch.
Some relays have two 87 contacts. Either one can be used.
Some relays have an 87 and 87a contact. Don't use 87a.
I posted it on the Mattylight thread, and linked it here:
