Electronic ignition/coil problem - HELP! was created by BMAC-Z1900
Alright guys. Need some advice here. I have a 1974 Z1 900 with a 73 Z1 900 engine. The bike wouldnt turn over so I took it to our local Kawasaki KZ/Z1 guru. A week passes and he calls me to tell me all the bike needed was a rectifier and a new ignition. (bike has Dyna S electronic ignition) He says its going to be close to $300. He then calls us back later to tell us that the bike had a bad coil which blew the new ignition, so he had to replace the the ignition again along with the coil. He now charges us over $700. Shouldn't he have checked the coil BEFORE replacing the ignition? And are stock coils compatible with the electronic dyna s ignition or should the bike have dyna green coils? What should I argue to try to get the price down? HELP

Wow, that sucks big time. With the Dyna S you should be using the Green Dyna coils and their 8mm wires.
Just a note on the price: the Dyna S is around $150 retail and so is the coil/ wire set. Check the prices at Z1 Enterprises if you don't believe me. Talk to Jeff if he is around.
