Hi all, my kz650 csr is fitted with the instruments from a kz750 so the speedo has the fuel/brake light, lights on warning light and oil light and only goes to 80mph - there's one on ebay, item no. 350721927347

I'd like to change it as a previous owner has butchered it, probably while trying to 'fix' the trip meter plus I'd like one that goes to 140 but I don't want to lose the warning lights.

Anyone know of a speedo with the 3 lights that goes to 140?

Thanks in advance.

What year is your 650? I know for certain it had the government mandated 85 mph speedo in 82, but that restriction was removed for 83, the last year the 650 was built.

Thanks for the reply.

My bike is registered here in England as a 1981 but I guess the 750 clocks were fitted after a smash.
I definitely need the oil warning light and low fuel is useful but I could do without the lights on warning light if you've any ideas?

Take a look at the VIN that is stamped into the steering stem neck. From that you can find out exactly which year + model bike you have. You can post it here; just leave off the last 3 or 4 numbers if you're concerned about security. Ed

Well, you are in a pickle. Since you have a hybrid, a 650 with 750 clocks, there may be an issue. Here in the states, there was no "standard" KZ750 in 83. I had an 81 KZ750E, and the clocks look nothing like the clocks on the 83 models that were offered here. You may need to go back to 650 clocks.

Cheers guys, I'll find the vin tomorrow and post it up.
I've got cv carbs that I don't think we're standard either, it's definitely a bitsa!
My bike is a CSR that we never got over here. We had the SR that is similar but closer to 'stock'
The 750 clocks have totally different chrome 'pan' backs that I've never seen before. The uk bikes had deeper cone shaped backs that further confuses the issue. And I've just for some NOS backs from New Zealand of all places so I want to stick with them if possible.
Guess I may have to give up on the 140mph idea :-(

You may want to check with these folks about the 140 mph speedo. They may know what is compatible. Ed

I agree, I would not surrender, you just need to do more investigation. Those 85 mph clocks are nothing but annoying, IMHO.
For example, in 83 in the states they sold a model called the 750 LTD. More of a laid back model like your CSR. Seems to have round clocks, which is what I suspect you currently have. But I could not find any direct down pictures of the clocks.

Hey thanks mate, that's a great link.
I found a few companies over here that offer a similar service but they want upwards of $250
I'll email and see if one could be recalibrated and re-numbered, that would be awesome!

I bet the kz750LTD was a cool bike.
Back in the olden days I bought a new z750, no kick start but a cracking bike and even better than the z650C I had before it.
I always wanted a kz1000ltd that I saw in Cycle magazine but we just couldn't get them over here.
I even wrote to Kawasaki UK but they were no help. Weird that 30-40 years down the line we can get your bikes!
I'd love a 1100 Spectre, another bike we were never offered :-(

I have an '83 H4 (LTD). Still only goes to 85.

Perhaps they realized the limitations of cruiser riders.
I'm joking, of course.
That is odd; my 83 ZX750 (GPz) goes to 150 and my 83 GS1100E goes to 140.
Do you think someone changed out the speedometer, or it just came that way from the factory?
