Charging problem cause? was created by daveo
Look what I found 7/18/13
I thought the stator needed replacement...

This was an Electrex RO3 rotor, less than a year old.

Is this another example of junk parts made in China? (Even though Electrex World doesn't mention that - see link for "Made-in-China.com" at www.made-in-china.com/traderoom/electrex .) They should be required to reveal the country of origin of parts; not just their business office.

Assuming this rotor is for your 1982 KZ1100 A2 (please add bike's year/model to your signature block) the genuine Kawasaki part is still "Active" according to Kawasaki.com. Unfortunately, they are more expensive that the Electrex World version ($326 at Partzilla). Ed

 1982 KZ1100-A2 ? ? ?

Including information about bike year and model is helpful to viewers and usually elicits better responses.
It's easy to put the information in your signature where it shows in all posted messages, past and future.
And may be changed whenever and as often as desired.
If wanting a signature showing information about the bike in posted messages, it's easy to do. Here's how:

Thanks, man! I share concern about Chinese junk, and I endeavor to keep it off my ride.

This Electrex rotor was manufactured in the United Kingdom, specifically by the Electrex World company as boldly noted (about halfway down the page) in the ebay listing description following:

Unfortunately, it's not China junk for the same crap comes out of the US any longer. Craftsmanship is just a thing of the past it seems. BTW I have obtained some good stuff from China as well...

I've gotten POS workmanship from so called reputable US sources over the last couple years. Sure, the owners of the business at one time did the machining themselves but over time, brought in young guns that just don't give a shit to that level of perfection.

Then you have the whack jobs that just plain and simple are out to burn people....

I'm curious, was the damage due to rubbing against the stator windings, or do you think just a manufacturing defect? Looks to me like spinning caused the cracking, but I'd think by then, the engine would have blown up.
