Stop lamp "in reverse" was created by 51-9
Hi out there,
I´d need your help please. Recently  I found out that my KZ400D (1977) has a "Stop lamp" (brake light failure indicator light). Of course the bulb was gone ages ago... ;)
When I put in a new bulb I found out that it is somehow working "in reverse": It is burning all the time and extinguishes as soon as the brake light is on (hen I´m braking).
What could be wrong here?
I checked the wiring diagram and found out that there is a "brake light failure indicator switch" - but I have absolutely no idea where this thing is in my bike.
Had anybody the same problem before? Does anybody know what might be the reason for this "reverse working"?
I´d be grateful for your advices!
Thanks & Regards from AUT
Patrick

You may want to start troubleshooting by looking at the brake light switch that the brake pedal operates. Make sure it is hooked up correctly and check it with a meter to see that it is operating correctly. If all is good there, trace the wiring that runs from that switch toward the lamp. Ed

Thanks Ed,
today I found out what went so wrong with my STOP LAMP. After a hard search I finally found the "Brake Light Failure Indicator Switch" behind the horn under the gas tank. One of the pro-owners "shorted" the switch due to the fact that the switch is broken.

Has anyone an idea where to get a "new" switch?
Thx
Patrick

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

Assuming you need the part shown as #18 in the diagram above, here's a new old stock (NOS) one on eBay for a decent price or best offer plus free shipping. You might want to offer him $20 to see if he will take it. Ed

Thanks Ed, that´s the thing I was looking for. But if I think and think and think.... :S .. maybe it is better to use a relay instead of this switch. The relay should ensure: Stop Lamp burning when braking (like brake light) - stop lamo not burning when not braking. I know that a simple relay is able to provide that :P , BUT: I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE SPECIFICATIONS OF SUCH A RELAY! :S :S :S
Do you have an idea? Or a link to a thred?

Would need the data like: How many Ampere, etc... or a link to a relay...
THANKS AGAIN, mate

:woohoo:
I think I found out how to wire all the stuff without using a switch or a relay....

1. I disconnect the Brake light failure switch (no need anymore)
2. I connect the blue and the green/white lead at the place where I just disconnected the switch
3. I disconnect the brown lead next to the STOP LAMP (in the tacho)
4. I Connect the Stop lamp to ground (instead of the brown + before)
5. I hope this will work....

The Brown wire has a splice, coming from the ignition switch, HOT 12v. You are going to blow a fuse at least, if not let the "Magic Smoke" out.
Brown to Black/ yellow as a straight connection is a "Short to Ground".

I know... I do not connect brown to ground. I disconnect brown first, seal it, then I make a new lead from the bulb to ground. So the flow is: green/white - bulb - black (new) - ground. Should work, shouldn´t it?
