Battery will NOT charge
02 Jul 2013 22:37
Thinking that I need to replace regulator and rectifier. Used car to jump my bike last summer and has never been the same, in fact had to jump it since then.
Let me know where I could buy a regulator/ rectifier. Going to test ALL the connections, tired of dealing with battery.

buy a new battery
buy a new reg/rect
should make close to 13.8 volts at 4000 rpm
when its all working right
check voltage b4 you do the swap
ive had problems in the past due to fucked batteries
if not done yet get a dyna ingnition
worth every penny

Are you getting voltage from the alternator on all three yellow wires? If not, the stator(the wire windings) may have a short, reducing the voltage to the regulator/rectifier.
Here's how to ohm check it, using a multimeter:
Using an OHMETER or multimeter, Check the three wire combinations again, looking for a reading of 0.36 - 0.54 OHMS. If the readings are above or below, the stator may be bad and need replacement. Also check from any of the three YELLOW wires to ground, this will show if arcing took place. Check only with the engine off !!
Before ordering a new stator, check the connections from the stator as there are electrical "Bullet" connectors that may be damaged or dirty.
Inspect the wiring for signs of shorting or overheating too. www.z1enterprises.com sells replacement rubber grommets for the alternator output wiring, they get hard and could leak oil after a while.
Check the wiring coming out of the grommet as there have been situations where the wires were damaged causing a short(I.E. twisted together with insulation damage).

There is a much better regulator rectifier available. The original is a shunt unit, which basically creates a lot of heat in the stator, which can cause it to fail. A series R/R does not create this heat, and lets the stator last a lot longer. If you are interested, please reply and I will find the link and post it for you.
