ground from battery was created by asevans
Finishing up my z1r. Got new pos and neg wires cor the battery. Not sure if they are exactly the same as the original.

I know the neg comes from the bat. And is grounded to the motor. On the wire that I bought I have another donut fitting. Is this supposed to go somewhere or is it not needed?

Thanks
Aaron

If it's not needed(look at the wiring diagram to find out), tape it up so it can't contact a hot circuit(any Positive wires).Kawasaki does supply extra wiring sometimes on battery cables, so check the wiring diagram.

Definitely check your wiring diagram to see where it should connect. On my KZ650 it is used (see KZ650-C1 wiring diagram below) and I suspect you will find it is needed on your bike too. Ed

Just guessing, but if have two black/yellow ground wires each with donut fitting, might be one to engine for the best ignition ground, and the other to chassis to assure best ground for lights, etc.).

Good Fortune! :)

On the KZ650-C1 the black/yellow wire from the battery has a bullet connector that plugs into the main harness. From there it provides the ground for all the lighting, the rectifier, the regulator, etc. (see link). Someone must have a wiring diagram for Aaron's '78 Z1R. If Aaron has the FSM the wiring diagram should be in the back just before the Index. Ed

Great; thanks. Looking at that wiring diagram it appears that the black/yellow wire should plug into the wiring harness. I suggest Aaron take a real close look to see if there is a black/yellow wire on the main wiring harness that has nothing hooked into it. It should be in close proximity of the battery. Ed

Thanks for the help.

Yes there is a black ans yellow wire With a bullet connector on the new neg wire that I bought. I see where it goes on the main wireing harness.

I would guess that it isn't needed. ill look at the diagram real close.

Thanks
Aaron

Actually it IS needed! That is the wire that is used to ground all of the lights, rectifier, regulator, etc. Take a close look at the diagram Patton provided and trace the path of the black/yellow wire beginning at the battery - you will see that the black/yellow wire connects a whole bunch of stuff to the negative side of the battery. If you do not connect it to the wiring harness you will be missing the direct ground for a whole bunch of stuff. Ed

Thanks ed, but the wire I have has a black and yellow wire with bullet conector on one end and a small black wire with donut connector on the other. I see where the b/y wire goes. Was wondering about the other one On the other end.
