82 spectre 1100, compatible rectifiers?

I just bought this bike and it died on me while I was riding, I believe it is the rectifier because the battery is good and the lights slowly dimmed and eventually died, the starter would get weaker too.
It also would backfire when I let of the throttle at 3000 rpm

I have a rectifier from a 79 kz1000, anyone know if it might be compatible?

I can't say for certain that it won't work, but the 2 bikes do use different part numbers for the regulators. There should be a diagnostic test in the Kawasaki Service Manual so you can test it before replacing it to make sure it is the problem. Ed

The plug is different. The early 3 phase R/R was 5 wire, and yours a 6. If you use the connector from the 6 wire, and put it on the early 5 wire, it should work. You want have or need the Brown wire. The Brown wire is the voltage sense wire on the 6 wire unit. The 5 wire unit uses the Positive charging wire directly to the battery for voltage sense. So you can pull the wires out of each connector, with a small pick. There is a small tab on the side of the wire terminal which holds them in the connector. Tape up and zip tie the brown wire out of the way. It is a Key On hot wire.
The three yellows make no difference as to their order, the red and the black of course Must match up.
Did you test your R/R? How about the stator AC voltage output? I would test before doing any replacement of parts.
