Turn signal switch wiring. was created by barquirt
I have a 1974 KZ400 that needed a replacement left hand handlebar switch. I am also installing new two-wire LED turn signals.
The ORIGINAL wiring in the handlebar switch was as follows:
Black: horn main
Yellow/red: headlight low beam
Blue: headlight main power wire
Red/black: headlight high beam
Brown: nothing (goes into the original six-pin plug, but doesn't run up to the switch)
Green: left turn signal
Orange: turn signal main power
Slate gray: right turn signal
The NEW switch is from K&S (#12-0041) and is set as follows:
Yellow: low beam
Black: horn ground
Brown: left turn signal
Green: high beam
Brown/white: turn signal main
Red: headlight main
Blue: high beam LED ground (switch has a high beam indicator LED)
Pink: horn main
Dark Green: right turn signal
Blue/white: passing light switch
OK, now I have wired up the leads as follows (new wire listed first, original wire lead second):
HEADLIGHT
Yellow to red/yellow
Red to blue
Green to red/black (these three give me functional headlight and hi/low switch function, but the high beam indicator in the gauges stays on at high or low beam setting.)
TURN SIGNALS
Brown to green
Brown/white to orange
Dark green to slate gray
This gives me NO signal flash fucntion. The signals switch on and off with the handlebar switch but don't blink.
Any ideas, anyone? I noticed the turn signal relay has an orange and a brown wire plugged into it, so i am thinking the fact the original brown wire isn't hooked to anything in the new switch is the issue. But where would it go?
Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

If you have LED signals you need to update your flasher with an electronic one. The LED signals don't have enough draw to activate the old thermal flasher.
