Kawasaki did not make any Z1 models in 1976. 1975 was the last Z1. If it is a 1976 bike it is a KZ900. Ed

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Maybe you need a new battery, how old is your battery?

Woah BUD. Thanks for the info. Sorry you could not figure out what kind of bike it is. That was not my intention. I did some research and located some numbers. The serial numbers as well as the title state it is a Z900. I appologize for claiming it is a Z1.
I do want to thank everyone that posted about the original problem. This was great information that helped get it diagnosed. Hopefully the stator/regulator will get it back on the road.
