Hi all,
Looking to draw on (hopefully) some past experience here please.
My bike is an '80 Mk II, which at some point in its life has (presumably) its engine; this has been replaced by one from a '78 Z1R.
While I'm happy that I've got the lighter crank motor, I'd love to turn the engine into a Mk II- lookalike. As a consequence, I've purchased clutch and cam covers, and just recently picked up a generator cover and stator.
However, on looking at the parts fiches on buykawasaki.com tonight, I've discovered that the rotor / stator arrangement is completely different between these two engines. Worse, the bolts attaching the stator to the cover are different sizes for each, so there's no way it's going to be an easy bolt-up. If the mounting bolt PCD is different, perhaps there is room to install an adaptor plate, but it's starting to look like a big job ... I could always buy a 79-80 rotor I suppose, but that's just more money on what's already starting to look like a money pit, and I'm not even sure the crank taper is the same (rotor mounting bolt is a different diameter, too).
Does anyone else have experience of this conversion ?
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Don't bother. You see the problem clearly.
