grinding noise when starting

I have a 1994 kz1000p, the electric starter Previously made a small grinding noise when it started, but it would always start. The noise got worse and I figured it was the motor, well I tried rebuilding the starter but ended up getting a new starter. Now with the new starter there is still a grinding when motor When i try to Start it, and now the bike won't catch. I don't know where to go from here.on

I don't know much about the 1994 model (that's a little too new for me ) but what you're describing sounds more like a starter clutch issue.
