Fuses on 80"s Police KZ1000 was created by Fel0400
Hello, I am new to this board, but am loving all the old Kawi pics. I have an 80's Police KZ1000 and am having problems with the fuses. On several occasions the bike has shut off as I am riding (Pretty Scary!) . I determined that the fuses AMPS were wrong when I bought the bike and changed them to the correct specs (30A for main and 10A for all lights). Recently the bike shut off again and this time I noticed the 30A slot smoking and it looked like there was some heat damage to the fuse junction box. Should I replace it, is it a wiring problem, a short, or what?? I am new to the motorcycle thing and any help would be appreciated! Thanks...

It's the fuse box. Replace it. I upgraded to push in plastic fuses on mine

Most auto parts stores carry a selection of the "Blade style"used in today's cars. Get the fuses while you're there too. You'll need to mount the new block close to where the original one went(if possible). The tools needed will be:

Wire stripper.
Wire terminal crimper.
Wire terminals (usually 1/4" wide, female push on type.
Wires of different gauge(probably 18 gauge for the lowest amp circuit, and 12 gauge for the high amp circuit, with possibly 14 and 16 gauge too).
Heatshrinkable splices, for splicing to the exhisting harness.
Heat gun to shrink down the heatshrink splices, for a watertight, no corrosion electrical joint.

The colors for the crimp terminals and splices are:

22-18 gauge Pink or Red.
16-14 gauge Blue.
12-10 gauge Yellow

I had to get a little creative. The stock fuse box has three power feeds in and most small blade type boxes are one feed in. I have another stock one I was gonna use if you want it.
