1977 kz400 Ignition Coil Replacement
10 May 2013 14:07
Hey all,
I may need to replace my ignition coil. What's the best replacement coil option (brand/supplier)?
I was looking at the coil on this page:
www.partsnmore.com/parts/kawasaki/kz400/?filters%5Bprice%5D=100
Recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I used this one on my 76 KZ400. I needed to drill a hole in the stock mount because the mounting points on this one are closer together.

These are the same coil that CoolerKing listed, but with caps for the plugs.
I would try these (angled caps):

or these (straight caps):

Thanks guys. Are these the correct specs for the 77 kz400?
Someone directed me to this coil, which is 5 ohms:

5 ohms would likely work without problems, but 4 ohms is what came stock.
The 4 ohm would probably match the dwell requirements better. The 5 ohm coil would probably make the points last slightly longer.

I installed the new coil and she fired right up. I didn't realize just how poor the spark was before; it's such an improvement.
Thanks again.
