Getting tired of my battery "Puking" on my frame and pipes, went with a new electronic regulator ,75 Z1B, had original regulator and rectifier, obviously needed replacing old unit, when tested put out over 20 volts when following factory testing procedures in manual, that new one helps, but local battery shop owner who is a friend and fellow biker, tells me he has not one but 2 options..according to him, no more puking,...one is a "Gel" battery ,other a Fiberglass or something like that, of course price is significantly more....$100.00 or so I think. Anyone had any experience with these types battery's?? Problems? Things to look out for?

Have 1975 Kawasaki Z1-B & 2003 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic
Had Hondas, Harleys and many ,many Z Series Kaws both Std. & LTD's

AGM in a heart beat....
First one lasted here in AZ heat for over 4 years... It was still operating but since I re-did my battery cage on the last re-build figured after 4 years, time for a new battery...

Pro's:
* Totally maintenance free.
* No acid spill on battery cage/frame/electrical connections etc...
* Increased Amp hour & cold cranking amp ratings pending model you choose.

Con:
* Cost more (but last 4 x longer)...

Truly a no brainer Ed....

I got mine at Battery Plus Stores... X2 Extreme Batteries...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VRLA_battery
Excerpt from Wikipedia (Google AGM Battery):

A VRLA battery (valve-regulated lead–acid battery) more commonly known as a sealed battery is a lead–acid rechargeable battery. Because of their construction, VRLA batteries do not require regular addition of water to the cells, and vent less gas than flooded lead-acid batteries. The reduced venting is an advantage since they can be used in confined or poorly ventilated spaces. But sealing cells and preventing access to the electrolyte also has several considerable disadvantages as discussed below.

VRLA batteries are commonly further classified as:

Absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery
Gel battery ("gel cell")

An absorbed glass mat battery has the electrolyte absorbed in a fiber-glass mat separator. A gel cell has the electrolyte mixed with silica dust to form an immobilized gel.

While these batteries are often colloquially called sealed lead–acid batteries, they always include a safety pressure relief valve. As opposed to vented (also called flooded) batteries, a VRLA cannot spill its electrolyte if it is inverted. Because AGM VRLA batteries use much less electrolyte (battery acid) than traditional lead–acid batteries, they are sometimes called an "acid-starved" design.

The name "valve regulated" does not wholly describe the technology. These are really "recombinant" batteries, which means that the oxygen evolved at the positive plates will largely recombine with the hydrogen ready to evolve on the negative plates, creating water and preventing water loss.[1] The valve is a safety feature in case the rate of hydrogen evolution becomes dangerously high. In flooded cells, the gases escape before they can recombine, so water must be periodically added.

Good Fortune! :)

I am replacing all my batteries with AGM type. I don't know what battery size you need but most of my bikes use a 12AA. I can replace them with Motobatt 12U for about $83 ea.

The Li-Fe batteries also have no acid to spit out. Weight about 1/10 as much as lead acid battery.

Last battery I bought was a Motobatt. Of course Chinese, but it has worked real fine for me.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
