ACCEL U-GROOVE SPARK PLUGS

After hunting through past posts, I found reference to Accel 142 U-Groove spark plugs; once a top-choice for the old Kaws. :)

Any opinions, considering today's alternatives?

I use NGK B6ES. The four cyclinder bikes use B8ES. I think the Nippon denso plug is ND W20ESU for the twins?

Dear bountyhunter,
Please see post #354645 from 3 years, 1 month ago. By golly, you were part of the subject conversation back then...what a trip!

I was so inspired by the enthusiasm expressed for that spark plug, I had to locate a set for my bike to try out. The Accel 142's should arrive by mid-week, along with some nice riding weather.

Just wonder if that old thread has relevance now, what gap I should start with, and what torque to snug them down to? :cheer:

...I agree with Baldy there. In the 70's I did a lot of experimentation with plugs on my old triples. Single ground, double, triple, quad ground! Didn't matter. Fat electrode, thin electrode. Didn't matter. Gold, Platinum, whatever! Didn't matter.

...as a matter of fact, the only thing that did matter, was the correct heat range! Yes, some plugs lasted longer than others. But, heat range was the thing to getting everything out of that engine, while not hurting it!

...do you really think that a volatile mixture of fuel and air can tell the difference between the shape of the spark that is igniting it?

...heat range, tantamount to performance and protecting your engine.

...I had a friend that believed since he went up three jet sizes, he had to go up three heat ranges. Blued the shit out of his pipes, then it holed his pistons.

Great feedback guys...THANKS!

Received in the mail, installed in engine. Cranked, cranked, and finally started. Ran pretty good until a few miles, then the engine began to run erratically, sputtered, and almost died.

I put the old ones back in, fired right up, and ran with no issues. Maybe a bad batch, or just old (but new in the old packaging). I'm skeptical now.
