Hello everyone.
My kz700 had a bit of a problem yesterday on its first ride. Basically caught the underside of gas tank and breather hose on fire. A plug wire off of coil must of came loose while putting fas tank back on. Burnt my coil up. I need to buy new coils but not sure what OHM to get. On the bike currently is andrews products 1287. I can not find any information on these coils. If someone could direct me the right way. I tried to get a resistance reading off of coils but couldn't find anything. Thanks

Most motorcycle coils are between 1.8 to 3 ohms, some older Kawasaki's had 4 ohm coils, but those had a ballast resistor. I'd imagine a new, 3 ohm coil will work for your bike, but replace both at the same time.

I have looked at the dyna 3.0 coils dual output coils. But they look like they won't fit properly under my gas tank.

You'll probably need to fabricate some custom mounting brackets to use either the Dyna or Accel 3 ohm coils. Read this:

Make sure the sparkplug wires will clear the tank, as some riders have had vibration rub through the insulation, making the engine erratic in operation.

The Accel 3 ohm coils will probably work (as Mfolks mentioned) if you have the stock ignition, and they fit similarly to the Blue Andrews coils, if that's what you have now.
If you get Dyna Gray 2.2 ohm coils, they are a better match for the stock igntion, but might be harder to fit depending on the mounts.

You could fab up some mounting brackets. Some guys used L-brackets from the hardware store.Marklorenzo wrote: I have looked at the dyna 3.0 coils dual output coils. But they look like they won't fit properly under my gas tank.
