KZ900 high beam indicator light problem was created by Kapahulu
I'm putting my '76 KZ900 back together and have run into a problem with the high beam light on the dashboard. When I turn on the light (low beam), the high beam indicator lights up about half way. Switching to high beam, the indicator lights up all the way. In other words, the high beam indicator is acting like the headlight.

I checked the wiring going to the indicator light and the connection in the headlight shell, seems to be okay. If I disconnect the headlight wiring, the indicator light works correctly (off with low beam and on with high beam).

The bike has a new left side switch pod. I connected the old switch pod up and the indicator light does the same thing. I don't know if it "always" did this because I only rode the bike once - from the dock to my house. Then it sat in my yard for a year before I started working on it.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Okay I figured it out. I put in a new headlight and the wiring colors don't match the stock harness. I wired two of the three connections incorrectly. Once I got it straightened out the high beam light stopped illuminating with the low beam. Also I noticed the headlight is a lot brighter when properly wired!
