i know that most of the kz bikes were very very similar engine and design wise. but does anyone know if you can use any other wiring harnesses? say off of like a kz750 or 650 to wire up a 900? im in the middle of a complete rebuild and i have no wiring harness

Not really. The KZ line included everything under the sun starting with a 1 cylinder air cooled KZ200 all the way up to a 6 cylinder water cooled KZ1300 and everything else in between. Ed

You can get a new harness from Z1 Enterprises and the cost is very reasonable.

To answer your question, yes the harnesses from different KZ's are similar but not exact. The connectors are the same generally. I did my 900 years ago with a KZ 440 harness, most was plug and play except the harness was a lot shorter from front to rear. I made up the difference with a custom plug extension. The other issue I had was the charging system. I also had to add another coil wire as the 440 uses a single coil. Every thing else was color correct and the connectors were the same and the wire colors were same. I did this years ago and have had zero harness related problems. It takes some time and patience but what doesn't. Just get schematics from your bike and the donor bike and attack one circuit at a time. Good luck on which ever direction you take.
