coil on plug system

I found some individual coils for the spark plugs called "coil on plug" online I think it would take some of the problems out of the coil wires. wiring those in would be fun, woudn't it?

I've read they don't really have much of a difference in performance, just more wires to install.

more or less thinner wire from the points/pickups.

The actual advantage is that eliminating the plug wires eliminates the inductance in those leads which makes a faster rising spark. Also gets rid of any wire losses.

Bottom line, the coil-on-plug was put in cars to eliminate the need for a distributor and eliminate parts which need periodic maintenance. Also reduces emissions. But increase performance? I doubt it very much.

Just be sure to get the right cop units, some are logic level while the ones you want are 12V and 1.2 (or close) ohms. Get the 1.2 ohm ones and wire them in series in pairs, that way your igniter (or points) thinks you're using the stock coils in wasted spark.

If you use a megasquirt controller to control the injectors you can control them individually, ie sequential ignition and injection.

well say I found a used set of coils from a mercedes benz 4 cylinder that consists of 2 coils under the valve cover, one on the spark plug and a wire going to the other for 2 different coils. probably another issue with the ohms right?

The overall height may be a problem. I don't think they are an improvement over Dynas but am pretty sure they are better than stock. I run them on my Concours with good results.
