stupid question about mounting dyna coils

I can't really stop thinking about this so here goes: I mounted them so the wires point toward the rear. It's a tight fit and the rearmost wires press against the frame but it works . Is there any reason to not mount them like this?

Avoid if possible, place where the spark energy can jump to ground, like the underside of the tank,or the frame. Perhaps some spiral wrap around the sparkplug wires will prevent rubbing through the insulation. Radio Shack sells 1/4" I.D. spiral wrap that works well for rub protection on brake lines too.

they really only fit one way decent enough to wire em up...cant remember right now which way... but you must have em right ...and either way they are super cramped...watch for sure that the wires to the ignition and the plug wires are not able to contact anything..tape...silicone...cover the screws..

Per Dyna Instructions:
NOTE: Honda and Suzuki mounting uses the two holes that are farthest apart; with the secondary towers pointing down and back on Honda's, and down and forward on Suzuki's. Kawasaki mounting uses the two holes nearest the coil body. The secondary towers will point up and forward on KZ900/KZ1000's and down and
forward on KZ650's.

I don't know about your bike, but on the 81 KZ650 the Dynas can't be mounted the same as stock. So I made a couple of mounting bracket extenders from 1-1/2" x 36 angle bar aluminum from the Home Depot (1 bracket per side). This allowed an offset from the stock mounting points, so the coils are more forward w the plug wires pointing downward towards the rear.

I did them similar to these topics but offset forwards & tucked closer to the frame.

Do the coils need the mounting isolated from the frame, connected to frame ground or doesn't matter? I have the green 3ohm Dyna coils, mounted with new brackets to clear the frame/tank on a newly powder coated frame and I'm wondering, were they grounded through the frame before? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

No, the coils could even be insulated, as it makes very little difference if they are grounded or not. They are similar to flyback transformers, boosting a voltage up, so it jumps a gap(sparkplugs).

Just put Dyna coils on my GPz1100
I adjusted (bent) the standard brackets down so that the wires cleared the frame and tank
