1982 KZ1100-A2 Headlight Help!
21 Feb 2013 13:46 - 21 Feb 2013 17:26
I recently developed a significant crack in my Vetter fairing at the right mounting bolt. I've always wanted to ditch the fairing but I'm having a heck of a time trying to find stock parts and I'm just not entirely sure what aftermarket parts would be compatible. Can I use the existing headlight from the fairing? What type of mounting bracket should I use? Any suggestions on blinkers to keep a stock-ish look?
So far I've found these brackets which are advertised to work with nearly every bike but I'm just not a fan of the look. Is there another option or is this what I need? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As I recall, the stock headlight shell remains on the bike. And the stock turn signals are either removed or remounted to the fairing. Can't remember how much of the headlight lens, bracket, chrome ring, etc., may be re-fitted into the fairing.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationA stock-type headlight bracket may be more secure.
Kawasaki.com or Partzilla -->> headlight & meter diagrams -->> see what's missing from your bike.
The stock bracket may be black. A chrome bracket from another model may fit, if it looks virtually identical in the drawings. Your bike probably had turn signals mounted to the bracket. An Ltd bracket won't have the holes for the turn signal stems, but the stems could be mounted in place of the big headlight bolts. Compare the parts from bikes of the same general year range.
similar shape

Thanks Patton for the info. The third link you posted confirmed my fears that I don't have any of the original hardware. When the previous owner removed the headlight and turn signals he also removed the mounting bracket.

I agree that I need to find a stock bracket. The search for it is the hard part. I'll keep looking.

Its an endeavor to replace all components with Kawasaki OEM. I removed the Vetter package from my KZ1100A-2 back 2000, and it took several years of stabs at it to finally get it right.
Ebay is the best source for the parts. Here is the Kawasaki website I use to attain part numbers by looking up assembly diagrams, then copy/paste the numbers to ebay search:
www.teamalpine.com/pages/oemparts?aribra..._Shaft_%281982%29//1
Good luck...
