Any Chinese aftermarket light beats the heck out of the ugly original. Remove the fender and stock system lamps, then the Chinese instruct how to install which normally is either a vertical mounted license plate off the side of the bike, or the plate under the seat well up under where you sit mounted horizontal. The plate needs to be mounted near horizontal so the tire doesn't hit it. From here the lamp is really a moot point as it's not needed as the plate is not able to be read even with light, so the modern way to procede is to remove all remnants of stock, this means the lamp, signals, cut off the rear of the frame, shorten the seat, anything to rid the space crappily occupied by unneeded junk, then mount your plate horizontal under the seat way up where it can't be seen, no need for signals as no one uses them and a big waste and look stupid, no need for tail light or brake light either. If law dictates signals, mount 2mm diameter chinese signals 2mm either side of the rear of the bike. You want the smallest for sure that don't detract from the visual beauty.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationInteresting....we don't have to have turn signals at all here in Ohio...hand signals are legal...and no inspections of motorcycle or cars.

I really like the harley light under the tail....I've seen pictures of that bike before but didn't realize it was a Harley light.

As far as your 550, it's mounted on the fender, right? No tail section over it? They have lots of lights that mount on fenders if that's what you need.

I had an old tombstone taillight on an old GT550 once...looked kind of like this one:

I got one from Drag specialties, the large oval. made a template of the tail housing (rear fender shape ) and mounted that puppy in there, it looks like it came that way. took me about one hour from start to finish. 40. bucks .

Mine is mounted on the fender, no cover. I'm tempted to go with this one:

In kali the law requires whatever came stock. Modifying lights is illegal if it is non-stock. Some people do it, just like they run illegal exhaust. I never want to give cops an excuse to ull me over. Not having turn signals is visible and obvious.

Just a quick note from personal experience with those eBay LED lights. Make sure your charging system is up to snuff if you are going to try a LED tail light. I killed one before I realized that my regulator had crapped out and I was overcharging. They don't like 16 volts.

Another note about ebay LED tail lights: most of them are not bright enough to serve as brake lights in daylight hours.

New Tail lights ? Hmm ? Lets think outside of the box. Maybe old vintage car tail lights off pre war cars. Crime Scene Choppers has some very nice well made units. I like the thought of maybe a tail light off an Old School bus that reads "Stop" when you hit the brakes. OR ! Just make your own, find a neat old housing that fits the style of your bike and then go find a Artistic Glass foundry and have them forge you custom lenses .

Here's an idea ! a 37 Ford tail light housing with a 32 Ford lens, Cut the housing to fit the contour of the rear fender. then braze a plate in where it would mount to the fender so you can fasten it ( I'd use nutserts inside the lens to hold it ) file it smooth and / or have it chromed or just paint it to match the bike .

I have more idea's for tail lights but that's enough for now. Seeya' Colorado Z-1

Speedway Motors has on line Tail lights for Hot Rods, The Custom tail light for a 50 Ford deluxe would look really cool tucked up and under the rear fender. add a blue dot and there you go ! it would be neat and truly different . Good Luck !
