Great, thanks!
I have an aftermarket tail light on mine now, but I am pretty sure it is going to fail inspection.
Must have 8 sq inches of surface area to pass here...or at least look stock enough that they don't hassle you.

My ELR clone has the same tail light as your 550. I cut and welded the rear subframe to allow the tail light to sit further in and flush with the rear cover. I like the look of the stock tail light as long as it's not sticking out.

It has turn signals. That light came with two 1157 bulbs. I used diodes and soldered them into the wiring harness so I have right and left turn signals, stop light and running light all from the stock tail lamp.

If the turn signals are inside the tail light, they are illegal by NHTSA requirement as well as most state laws. The center-to-center distance between the centers of the turn signal's lense has to be at least nine inches. Most "integrated" rear tail lamp assemblies do not comply.

Re: Aftermarket Tail light
05 Jan 2013 16:46 - 05 Jan 2013 16:50It was an FYI. Out here, they inspect bikes when you go to sell them and having illegal lights will fail. Cops also look for excuses to pull people over. Just pointing out that before you put a bunch of work into mounting a new light, you might want to see if it's legal where you are.baldy110 wrote: Ya, and so is speeding and we all know no one does that, right.
