That's the stock Kawasaki electronic ignition.jarrad wrote: ... popped the ignition cover off my new GPZ 11 engine...

Operates in conjunction with an I.C. Igniter, a separate unit mounted elsewhere on the bike, usually under a side cover.
Points ignition was used on the large Kaw fours through the 1978 model year.
The electronic ignition with igniter was introduced on the 1979 KZ1000-A3.

Or easily convert to Dyna-S, if desired.MFolks wrote: This is the type of ignition that has the mechanical ignition advancer, so if the IC Igniter goes bad, you can make a suitable version using "Loudhvx's" GM modules.
Dyna-S fits under the points cover, and doesn't use the igniter.
As reported by some very knowledgeable persons, a properly functioning Kawasaki electronic ignition is in some respects "superior" to the Dyna-S ignition.

They made/make many ignitions for Japanese bikes. In my opinion, the ones they made for Kawasaki were superior to the ones they made for other brands. They used a better design on the Kaws than Hondas, and were also more reliable.
I thought I saw something similar on Suzuki's, but am not sure iit was TEC.
