I'm thinking it looks like the stock ignition on my 750 but I have to admit its a while since I looked behind that cover.

that is the company that made ignition components for all '70's(at least) Hondas...not any relation to Dyna or Dynatek...didn't know Kawasaki ever used them. Could this be some sort of retrofit?

TEC is a Japanese brand of electrical and ignition parts, not related to "Dyna" or Dynatek"

The 70's up to the 80's Kz1000/Kz1100 were(I believe) points equipted. I had a 1977 Kz1000 with points, traded it in for 1982 GPz 1100 with the electronic ignition, so don't really know when Kawasaki went to the electronic ignitions.

That's the stock Kawasaki electronic ignition.
Operates in conjunction with an I.C. Igniter, a separate unit mounted elsewhere on the bike, usually under a side cover.

Points ignition was used on the large Kaw fours through the 1978 model year.
The electronic ignition with igniter was introduced on the 1979 KZ1000-A3.

Good Fortune! :)

This is the type of ignition that has the mechanical ignition advancer, so if the IC Igniter goes bad, you can make a suitable version using "Loudhvx's" GM modules.

Or easily convert to Dyna-S, if desired.

Dyna-S fits under the points cover, and doesn't use the igniter.

As reported by some very knowledgeable persons, a properly functioning Kawasaki electronic ignition is in some respects "superior" to the Dyna-S ignition.

TEC is the trademark for Toyo Denso Co./group. AKA Toyo Denko Co.
They made/make many ignitions for Japanese bikes. In my opinion, the ones they made for Kawasaki were superior to the ones they made for other brands. They used a better design on the Kaws than Hondas, and were also more reliable.

I thought I saw something similar on Suzuki's, but am not sure iit was TEC.
