Just wondering the firing order on the fours are 1,4-2,3 does that mean that 1 and 4, and 2 and 3 fire at the same time?

That should be 1-2-4-3

Yep, a "Wasted Spark" that fires on the exhaust stroke. Many 4's do this.

As you can see 1 and 4 are in the same position as is 2 and 3. I do beleive they fire two at a time.

one coil fires both plugs at once one cyclinder on compression and one cyclinder on exhaust.

since it fires on exhaust its considered wasted

To go though complete cycle of firing all four cyclinders once...... you have the spark plugs firing 8 times. 2 times each.

That what I was wondering about the coils do fire both at the same time.
I was always worried about the plug wires and coils and how to wire them up.

Are you running a Dyna-s or points?

My 82 KZ1100 has electronic ignition I think

Pistons in cylinders #1 and #4 rise and fall together.
Pistons in cylinders #2 and #3 rise and fall together.
When 1-4 are at top, 2-3 are at bottom.

When pistons 1-4 are approaching top, one is on compression stroke, and the other is on exhaust stroke.
The dual wire coil fires once with each crankshaft revolution, at which time it sparks both cylinders 1 and 4.

Whichever 1 or 4 that needs the spark will then combust (compression stroke > power stroke).
Whichever 1 or 4 that doesn't need the spark (exhaust stroke > intake stroke) gets the spark anyway (wasted spark).

Same thing is happening with the other coil on cylinders #2 and #3.

This design allows the two coils to spark 4 cylinders.
