Dyna s wiring

Back in 82 I bought a Dyna S and coils and had exc luck till 2003 when a pickup burnt out. After that I ran the stock points till now and am installing a new s now.

Upon getting the tape off the old 3 way connector they give you I find I have the red wire going to the s unit still attached and for the switched 12 volt power I just cut the red/yellow wire in half and used it for power and the other end still going to the two coils like normal.

I used it this way for 21 years and never had a problem so it should be fine to do it again right ?? Can't believe the instructions would not just say to do it this way and not try to find a 12v source through the rear tail light or unused jack.

I checked and it had 12.2 volts still coming out of it so unless there is a problem I'd like to keep it the same. Thanks.

Any source for switched battery positive will serve equally well to provide power through the red wire to the Dyna-S.

If an unused accessory wire happens to be convenient, would consider using it instead of splicing into a harness wire.

Good Fortune! :)
