Diode in Z900-A4 circuit? was created by Garn
Could anyone help me establish the reason for a small diode, picture below.
I have found them connecting the blue leads from left to the blue leads from the right h'bar controls.
I have read that it stops the "moment of darkness" when going from high beam to low beam or vice-versa.

I have also seen them connecting to one of the spade terminals of the hazard flasher and was told its because they don't work unless they have it installed.

I have found these in many Z900-a4's
Another bit of info is... I also believe I have seen them on a Z1B's as well as the A4.

According to the diagram here, www.kzrider.com/filebase/doc_download/264-z900a45 ,
There are three, one at the turn signal flasher, and two at the hazard flasher. Back feeding from other circuits used is unwanted, so the diodes are there for current to flow in one direction only. Saves running separate wires in the harness.

As Motorhead said, it prevents backfeeding of circuits. It saves wires, and more so, it saves having to use complicated switches, like what you see on old cars.

The diode on the red wire of the hazard flasher prevents blowing the main fuse in case the blu/red-to-brn/wht fuse blows from a short.

The diode on the brown wire of the hazard flasher prevents the "Park" position from powering up the bike.

The diode on the orange wire on the turn-signal flasher prevents the hazard circuit from powering up the bike while the hazards are in use in the "Park" position.

Basically they are there so the hazard system could be included with minimal extra wires/switch contacts. If you remove the hazard flasher, all of the diodes could be removed, and the one on the turn signal flasher could be replced by a wire.

Thanks for your prompt answers.
So, its all to do with the flashers and hazard wiring...
My reading of the connection of the diode in the headlight circuit under the tank is incorrect.
Damn! I could have sworn I had taken them from that spot.
Also, that theory about the "moment of darkness" between high and low beams seemed to be questionable .
