Fuel pump for a kz1000g 1980
04 Nov 2012 10:02
I'm in the process of restoring a Kawasaki 1980 KZ1000g fuel injected bike. The fuel pump is bad and I am trying to find one I could use in its place. The original is not available. Does anyone have an idea on this? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

This might be some help also. Shows the routing of things and part numbers.

My undestanding is the pump can go as high as 70 or so PSI(using an adjustable fuel pressure regulator). Make sure to use the rated high pressure hose after the fuel pump. Normal pressure was 33 PSI at idle, and then 35 PSI when under load.

Could something like this be retrofitted to work on it?
Since the stock version is no longer made Id rather modify something that can be easily found at an auto parts store for $50 rather than a used part costing $250 plus that could drop dead after a month,if your broke down on the side of road its a lot easier to find a napa auto parts than waiting for a part from red line cycle to show up.
Yeah Im a keep it cheap/simple kind of guy! :woohoo:
You might want to install a regulator depending on what kind of pressure the pump puts out

I kinda figure why replace a part that people agree is a problem waiting to happen with a used part with the same inherant issues built into it,Theres a reason why you see so many sb chevys sitting between the frame rails of old ford hot rods!
Ill go with easy to find/cheap any day unless Im trying to do a nut/bolt numbers matching resto anyday :woohoo:

Part suggestion. IIRC the replacement part number from Walbro for the 87-89 F150 external pump is the same replacement part number for a GPz1100 and 750 Turbo..
External pump with well over 45 psi peak pressure, and 5 amp draw at whatever pressure blew my finger off the outlet. I use it to empty gas tanks when needed. Looks exactly like the Walbro 392/393 that I have.
Seemed to me that experience justified my suggesting it.
