DEVELOPED A GREMLIN........

Been a while but.....my 78 650 Custom......she has begun to sputter and cut out on me while riding, but will usually start up again...eventually. I had just replaced the stator and rode her to work for a few days before the problem started. Also, no headlight or turn signals now. I'm getting 12v at the battery and spark at all four spark plugs. Wiring harness and connections look ok from what I can see. When she runs, she runs fine and then.......

Any thought's on where to start?

what's battery voltage when bike isidling?i think it should be around 12.8 volts.have volt meter on battery and start it.seewhat battery does.if volts drop more than 2 volts have battery check.

If you're only getting 12v at the battery something is wrong. Take a look at the FSM on how to test the rectifier / regulator. My '77 has a different charging system, but it was experiencing similar symptoms. It turned out to be a problem with the rectifier that was easily diagnosed using the FSM. I installed a replacement from Oregon Motorcycle Parts (see link) and now the charging system is performing perfectly. Ed
