what is the minimum electrics i can keep was created by tenniso74@gmail.com
hey guys, i want to pare down my electrics to the minimum. the bike is a 77 kz650 C-1. the bike has electronic ignition. i am building a tray for the electrics to go under the seat and am considering ditching the battery and starter, but am not sure if i can with the electronic ignition. i just want the bike to be as bare bones as possible. i am converting it to a cross between cafe racer, street tracker/street fighter/bratstyle.

tell me what i absolutely must keep, and what i can get rid of.

thanks

Could start with this thread (which probably contains more than one iteration for reducing wiring on KZ650C-1):

If you have the kick start capability, you can remove the starter, solenoid & associated wiring, but if you do not have kick start, with the starter removed, you'd have to push start it(not fun for a bike out of tune).

The 77 KZ650 needs to retain the battery for the charging system to work, or you can look into swapping over to a later charging system. The 77/78 single-phase system might swap, but a better swap would be a later 3-phase.

THe other option is to just get a small, 12v scooter battery. It won't turn the starter, but it will work well with the charging system.
