No. Mine have 1 brass shim. it is in the most forward hole in the coil. But I didn't have it in while this was going on. I am waiting on more fuses. I had this problem once before but tightened up some loose connections and it went away. Then the coil died and when I put the new one in I didn't put that brass insert in. Could that cause the coil to ground out and blow fuses? More less the main fuse? But there are brass spacers that are also there that are a little over a quarter inch long. I had to use those or it wouldn't mount up at all.

ya if a screw with current is close to the mounting screw it can jump to gound and short....if you see my pic it has to be that way to protect from a jumper or short.

If you dont use the same ohm coils as stockers, it can cause havoc. Saw a buddy of mine with a KZ650 install late model coils and they smoked lol. No I didnt help him do that.

The coil that I did replace was from an 1100 I do believe. But it is the same part number as the ones I had on there. The only different thing now is the wires. Instead of being the flexible wires, they are a hard wire that is braided wire. But I did find the problem after about 12 fuses. Someone twisted 2 black wires together in the front of the bike and zip tied them to the front shock. The fuse blew every time I turned the bars. I clipped them and cleaned them up and spliced them together properly and tucked them back in. This bike runs like a champ. Now I just need fork seals. Thank you for the info about the shims tho. I did go out and pull both just to make sure they were both shimmed. I passed that information on to my brother that is building a Harley bobber. He said thank you to y'all also.
