KZ250 Running Lights? was created by MaxFly
Hi List;
I'm new to this list and to the KZ250. I just picked up a 82 KZ250 LTD (M). It is in really good shape and is all original and only has 17000km (10500 miles). I have it running pretty good but it had a couple of electrical issues. I now have all the lights working except for the tach light and the high beam indicator light.

My question is are the front indicator lights suppose to be on all the time (running lights)? Right now they are not. I did a quick forum search and could not find anything.

I'd open up the front signals first, looking for bulbs with the running filiment burned out/broken.The bulbs should be the same as the tail light/brake light, a # 1157 dual filiment bulb.

Then look inside the headlight housing, for disconnected wiring going to the running light circuit.

Color Codes On Most Kawasaki’s (written for 1980’s bikes)

HEADLIGHT
RED with BLACK stripe, High Beam.
RED with YELLOW stripe, Low Beam.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
RED, Running or Tail Light.
BLUE,(sometimes with a Red stripe) Brake Light Circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1157 dual filament bulb
GREEN, Left front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Left front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
GREY, Right front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Right front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREEN, Left rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREY, Right rear turn signal circuit.

The rear signals are not running lights, and an amber steady light shown to the rear may violate your states vehicle code.

Thanks for the write up. I'll trace them on the weekend and let you know if I find the problem.
