Hi all. Any quick ideas where I should look first? I don't know if there are known issues with any one link in the chain. Thanks for any help.

More times than not on an older Z, its the radiator fan switch. This sensor is mounted on the radiator and when it reaches a certain temp, it connects the 2 internal wires and connects the fans power to run. These switches often get corroded or simply create an open circuit. Easy test, find your radiator fan switch, some have 2 wires which connect together to turn on fan and others have only one wire which can be grounded to complete the fan circuit. By jumping the wires and bypassing fan switch, you can see if the switch is bad or if the fan is bad.

What kind of bike are you working on?
Id check for a thermostat or a relay to make sure youre getting power to the fan itself B)

If the fan switch is a 2 wire, it is most likely connecting 2 hots and you wouldnt see power at your fan until this switch reached temperature. Jump your switch with key on, if fan spins, its switch, if it doesnt, I would suspect another problem which will be less likely.
