On my 78 kz1000 that will not start, should both sides of the points have power with the key on, the reason I ask is my kz only has power on the right side. It will not start could one of the condensers be bad , the other side grts power when it fires but would this keep my motor from running

If they don't "Ground out" when you turn it over they are probably dirty and need cleaned or replaced, this will keep it from running.

Another possibility is the sparkplug caps 5000 ohm resistor has failed, you'll need to ohm check these out, or replace them. The resistor is a non servicable item. When getting ready to install the sparkplug caps, cut about 1/4" off the end of the sparkplug wire & then screw the caps on for a better connection.

after doing a little more research i found that the points should be grounded and break ground when it fires and the one side is not grounded so im gonna change the condensors and see if that helps , man ive got the itch to ride my bike and all it will do is turn o=ver over and over with no start
