750 spectre only can get 6.0000 rpm's

have a 83 750 spectre and when it gets to 6 grand feels like a rev-limiter is on it.what is the rpm limit?cleand the carbs 3 times.bike runs great untill 6 grand.has mechanical advance lube all pivot points on it.just feels like a rev-limiter.

Maybe your feeling a fuel restriction. Try opening the cap on the Tank, also see if the PetCock screen is partially blocked. Possible In-line filter is restricting flow, or there mat be screens above the Needle and seat for the Float Valve. Some carbs have them. Fuel level in carbs should be checked using the clear tube test.

I don't believe the Spectre's had a rev limiter. Is the bike suffering from fuel starvation? Air filter clean? Running individual"Pods" on the carbs? How's the sparkplugs look? Black is to rich, White too lean, but a light tan is about right. Using any of the "E" (Ethanol) gas?

Didn't we have a guy on here not long ago that had a similar problem and it turned out to be the breather that comes off either the valve cover or the transmission? I can't remember which now but it was plugged and his case was getting pressurized and causing something like this. There was another guy that had a vacuum operated petcock and he was losing vacuum to it at high RPM's and it would shut off every time. Was it connected to the wrong place?

Those later year bikes had some different emissions stuff. Best to read up on it in the manual.

think the emissions stuff has been taken off.there is a hose just between the 2 cylinders.stock air cleaner.running a little rich.ethanol gas is all i can get.fuel lines are not bent or resricted(hwould have to take carbs off the check float blow screens.i went out and i can rev it past 7 grand just sittlin in netural.i.ve taken petcock out to look at screen ,it was clean.vaccum line to petock on # 3 carb vaccum port.have treid running without aircleaner in it ran worse.air cleaner should be changed(couldn't find one locally).thank you for your help

Definitely change the Air Filter Element, if dirty.

i;ll get an air filter.ordered colortune kit and should get it today to make sure a/f screws adjusted right.carbs are synced.vaccum ports on carbs have been plugged where emission lines went and air box has been plugged where emission line went.

thank you all for your help.air filter dirty,#1 float level was off and #2carb was leaking at boot.now time to change the steering stem bearing,then ride
