my stop light by the gauges wont come on with the rear brake pedal, although brake light works with pedal, just went thru all the connections with Deoxit, everything is connected & all wires are in good shape,...would the rear brake switch be bad, & how can I check it ? Pete

You can use either a self powered test light or a multimeter to check the switch, just disconnect the wiring going to it, and then use the testing equipment across the contacts where the wires went. With the switch depressed/squeeezed, you should have continuity, if not, then the switch may be bad.
A multimeter being used for continuity and resistance checking, uses an internal power source, usually a battery, and will indicate with a full deflection of the needle, if the meter is the Analog type, or a "Beep" or other tone, if the meter is the Digital type(if the meter has the capability).
You should never check for voltage with the meter set up for continity or resistance, as the meter can possibly be damaged or destroyed by reading external voltages.

Trianglelaguna, the bulb is fine, it goes on with both the hand &foot pedal, MFolks,I"ll have to go out & check with the multimeter tomorow, as its 100 degrees today here, & probobly 115 in the garage, I"ll let you know what I find out...Thanks...Pete
