Not charging. was created by BIGD
My bike is not charging for some reason. I removed the battery, charged it and the bike started no problem. I did a test like you would do with an old car, after it was started I removed the positive on the battery and the bike immediately stalled, is this an indication of the alternator being defective or does this test not work with this bike. The problem is not the battery or the starter. My rotor does have a crack in the magnets, would this cause a no charging situation. Thanks Don

Some KZ's absolutely will not run without a battery. My '77 KZ650-C1 is one of them. It uses a field coil that must be energized from the battery. Your bike may have a different setup, but the best bet is to just install a fresh battery as you will need one anyway for normal riding. Ed

Use this troubleshhoting guide:

www.electrosport.com/technical-resources.../fault-finding-guide Most bikes with the magnetic roter will produce 14.5 volts D.C., measured at the battery terminals at idle. Anything higher, and there's risk of boiling the battery fluid.
