My 82 kz305 has me befuddled! I developed a serious miss. Changed plugs, points, condensor, spark plug ends and cleaned out carbs. Here is what it is now doing. Right side has the miss. I figured that out by removing plug wire while engine was stumbling along. I did the right side and nothing happened, still running awful. I then removed the left side and it died. So, it must be right side. I put a test light on coil to be sure I had voltage coming out. Had power . I used a timing light over the wire and the light was pulsating. It's late , so tomorrow I will readjust valves to be sure it's not that. Any other ideas?

From the reported history, it appears that the right side's coil is being grounded and ungrounded through the points as it's supposed to be.

And if "voltage coming out" means "high tension voltage produced from the coil to the plug wire," the coil itself is likely okay.

As known, high tension voltage produced by the coil must travel to the spark plug gap, and jump across the gap (arc = spark).

With the spark plug removed and its base held grounded against the head while spinning over the engine (with ignition switch ON), are there fat blue sparks? Any spark at all?

If no spark, could be a disconnect in the high tension circuit, such as a bad plug cap, or failure of connection between plug wire and cap, or defective spark plug, defective plug wire, etc.

Good Fortune! :)

Is the missing at all RPM or just Idle? Have you verified compression? Is the problem cylinder, hooked to the Petcock vacuum line? If so you may have a vacuum leak, or a hole in the diaphragm so fuel will be pulled through that line. Your Pilot mixture screws what are they set at and does turning them seem to make any difference?

My .02 worth.

Get a spray can of something flammable.

Spray it carefully around the carb boots and manifolds, with a pin point spray, while the engine in idling.

A bad seal / cracked boot will give a miss, due to an overly-lean mix. Pin-point fuel delivery will make the miss go away.

Bad gaskets cause air leaks in bad places. "1982" gives a clue.

Had time for another test. Used a timing light on the spring on the left side points with ignition on. Light came on when points separated and went off went points came together. Good sign on the good side. Now the bad right side, the light stayed on whether the points were in contact or not! Not good , right? Perhaps a wiring issue?

Check carefully the insulating washers for the points, the right side is grounding somewhere.
