Relocate my Battery and Wiring Help Please! was created by 1977KsKZ1000
Hello I am new to the forum just got my KZ a couple of days ago and am wanting to turn it into a cafe style drag/street bike. I have a 1977 KZ1000 A1 and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with relocating the battery and the wiring to get a more clean open look? Also I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get that kind of seat and a good idea on how to make the rear tail section with a passenger seat!? lol I know its alot to ask but if anyone needs it I do have the original wiring diagram...

I can help with the electrical part of the modification, but you'll need others with the structural needs.

Have you considered using one of the dry cell batteries?

Look at these:

Good replacement battery cables can be made from 6 AWG(American Wire Gauge) welding cable. Welding supply stores carry it. It's sold by the foot, comes in two colors(RED and BLACK)and the terminal ends might be installed where you buy the cable. If not most places that work on electric fork lifts might be able to do the job for you.

Probably as low as possible, to keep the weight down toward the center of gravity. Also centered to avoid having to compensate as you ride. Some of the car club people have moved their batteries to the trunk of their vehicles, so it's no problem in running longer battery cables.

Could roam the Gallery for examples of interest, where link to a build thread is sometimes included;
or search the owners' posts for related topics.

Or do a forum search with terms such as "cafe seat" or "battery location" for posts by the particular owner, or by any member. This refers to using the green Search button under "FORUM" in the main ribbon (not the FORUM SEARCH shown in the white box).

There are cafe build threads with details about the seat construction, some of which may include locating the battery in the seat hump or other places, and the wiring involved.

Good Fortune! :)
