Question on ignition switches

I lost the keys to my 80 LTD 1000. I have an earlier switch with the key thats the same except it lacks the yellow wire thats on the 80 switch. The diagram shows it going to the kill switch. Can I just use the earlier switch & bypass the kill switch/ I admit this electrical bike stuff is not my strong point so Id appreciate any help.Ive looked in the file base & online for a wiring diagram in color with no luck & the black & white ones are tough to make sense out of for me.

Who would cut the keys, a dealer or key shop ? Id rather just use the other switch, the bike is made from 2 I found and the tank key is different then the ignition & gas cap keys

Found a place that will make the keys, & that switch wont work anyway. The unmarked wire in the diagram is the yellow to the kill switch and starter

You should be able to use the older switch (without yellow lead) and still power the kill switch.

Most of the older Kaw's use a brown lead from the ign switch to power the kill switch. You should just need to wire the brown lead to the kill switch.

What is the purpose of the extra wire on the 80 model then ? Thanks for the info, Ill pursue getting a key made locally by a lock smith that the Kawasaki dealer told me about, then go from there if the guy can make me a Z5066 key. The terminal block has been cut off the earlier switch I have and that will save a lot of splicing. I found an old gas cap with the key in it & swapped that out, it had a different key any way. I looked thru the file base & theres no colored wiring diagram there for an 80 LTD
