Now I've done it, help please. was created by jess
My bike, 83 gpz1100 with carbs.
I installed dyna s 3.0 ohm coils. Bike has some carb issues but noticed
that recently my batt wasn't charging. Checked the RR and that was ok.
I checked the two diode plugs in the fuse board and they were ok. But
when I checked the voltage from the yellow stator wires only 11v. I put
in a good known stator and now batt is charging. While I was replacing the
stator there was one black wire that is attached somewhere under the
oil pan that was disconnected. I cleaned those up and now batt is charging.
But now my tach is not working, what did I do. Any ideas

The kawasaki supplied tach's, use a ignition coil connection to generate the pulses to operate the instrument. If possible, inspect the wiring on the ignition coil(may be on either coil, left or right)Look for a disconnected wire or two in any harness.

Thanks MFOLKS
Looking in that area I found a very loose connection that went from the left coil to the main wiring harness.
that wire was very poorly connected to two wires feeding into that main harness. Honestly, I don't know how they
stayed connected. I plan to soldier them and we will see if that resolves the tach issues. I do know the bike will not
run without these connected.

Yes, the wiring can be a real PITA, especially if previous owner(s) have spliced wires using sticky black tape, non shrinkable splices, or simply wires twisted together. I've seen the "Wire Nut" type used on some bikes too.
