Questions on Dyna grey coils on 80 KZ1000 was created by mtkawboy
Im putting a set of grey Dyna coils on my 80 KZ1000 with factory electronic ignition. Do I hook them up direct or is there a resistor I have to remove / If there is a resistor is it built into the wire or seperate ?

Do you have a wiring diagram? It should show a "Ballast Resistor" if your bike has one. I'd lift the tank, looking for a resistor wired into the ignition coil circuit.

The "Filebase" here might have a diagram, it's located in the upper right hand of this website's home page.

The Factory Electronic Ignition had no Ballast Resistor, the points systems did though.

all the way to the top, where you click on forom....allthe way to the right. it should say file base
1980 LTD 1000..,1976 LTD 900, have the 1000&900 now. the rest are previous= 1978 KZ 650 B.., 1980 Yamaha XT 500..,1978 Yamaha DT 400.., 1977 Yamaha yz 80..,Honda trail ct 70.., Honda QA 50...5-1/2 hp brigs & straton CAT chopper mini bike...3-1/2 hp mini bike (WHEN GAS WAS ABOUT 45 CENTS A GALLON)!!!!

I was in the file base, theres nothing there but an original ad under the 1980s. Thanks for the help Motorhead
