I'm looking to purchase a Dyna S ignition for my 1980 LTD 1000, bike is stock other than Smoothbore 29s, PODs & 4-in-1 Kerker. Will the Dyna S work with my stock coils ? There is some mention about a certain "ohm" coil you need to have (stock or aftermarket) to use with the Dyna....does anyone know what ohm stock coils are?? Or how do I measure the resistance of my coils to determine this. Any other considerations I need to keep in mind when making the change to a Dyna S system?? I'm having intermittent problems with my IC Igniter box, it appears to be cheaper to purchase a new Dyna S system rather than purchase a used IC Igniter. Thanks in advance for any help.

The 80 KZ1000's already have the electronic ignition pulsar coils (factory) and still utilize the IC Igniter. The factory coils are nominal at best and are 3ohm coils. The (Green) Dyna coils would be the correct replacement coils.

Use an ohmmeter to measure resistance (ohms) through the primary winding inside the coil, which is between the two terminals.

I would stay with the Factory Kawasaki Ignition over the Dyna S. New coils will be whats needed. If there is a problem with the stock pick-up coils or the Ignitior, those can be replaced back with stock pieces.
Now if you want to go with the Dyna 2000, then disregard.
