what battery to get for my kz550

what is the cheapest and most reliable battery i can get for my kz550? where can i buy it? what battery charger should i use? thanks

I'm sure there are cheaper ones, but I use Sears Diehard batteries in my bike. They last 6_ years. Buying multiple cheap batteries and possibly getting stranded is no bargain. BUT, whatever battery you get charge it carefully or you can easily cause it to have a short life.

Bike batteries need to be charged at LOW amperage. For example, the instructions for my Sears Diehard battery read something like this:

Slowly fill each cell to the upper level with electrolyte (acid)
Let battery stand 30 - 60 minutes before charging
Charge at 1.5 amps for 2 - 5 hours or at 2 amps 2 - 4 hours
Monitor battery while charging
Battery should read 12.70 volts
If using automatic battery charger and it shuts off before the time listed on chart do not charge any longer - let battery stand for up to 1 hour then check voltage
Charging your battery at a rate over 2 amps on any battery charge rwill shorten the life of your battery - do not exceed charging guidelines .

I got mine from the local dealer it was allready filled and charged. the little batterys are very picky how you fill and charge them if not done right thay just don't last
as for a charger for them i bought a battery buddy. very low apps and won't over charge them

take the battery go to wal mart..use their in store touch pad on the isle to find your year and make...buy it....go out to the car and get the old one..stand the new one next your dead one to make sure all is the same....take the old one back into the store with your receipt and they will give you some money back for it...slow charge the new one...cheap cycle chargers at harbor freight..their batteries have a warranty and they are the best(on the wallet)

the only problem i have is my bike didn't come with a battery. i checked at wal mart and all they had was the one for the KZ750. are you also talking about the $6 charger from harbor freight?

Look up your bike at the Yuasa battery website. Then find a battery w the same dimensions. I checked the 550-Ltd & 750-Ltd, and it seems they use the same battery. The needed battery will probably be 12V 12AH... check the owner's manual.

If not already done, would check with AutoZone (or other automotive supply), which might have the correct battery on hand, or could order it to have in a day or so.
