Running on 2 cylinders

Just a heads up in case anyone else has had this problem. Recently my performance was drastically reduced to the point of running on 2 cylinders (2 & 3). Pulled off the coils, had them checked out by the local shop with a coil tester.....ok, no problems. Next....unplugged crank sensor pigtail from igniter (looked a little corroded) hooked up an ohm meter....checked out ok, plugged back in. Started engine and voila, firing on all 4 cylinders again, went for a ride, she's a "screamer" again. Next day, time for a ride, start her up, crap !!, back to running on cylinders 2 & 3 again. Hmmmm....time to apply "Cleaning Electrical Connectors 101"...soooo De-Oxit & Di-Electric Grease applied to a myriad of connections front to rear (including that crank sensor pigtail). Start her up & voila again, back to running on all 4 cylinders. Next day, time foe a ride, start her up, F**K !!! back to running on 2 cylinders again. Long story short......if you look at the stock location of your IC Igniter box (my bike is a 1980 LTD 1000), on the bottom of the igniter, where the wires come out of it, directly behind those wires (where they exit the bottom of the igniter module) is the head of a bolt. The head of that bolt, after 32 years, has finally wore a crease in one of the wires that causes the bike to lose cylinders 1 & 4 intermittently. Soooooooo, guess I'll cancel the "For Sale" ad for the vintage LTD 1000 on craigslist and tell the doctor to cancel the script for Prozac & Zoloft.....my "Baby" is back running like new again.

Good to hear you were able to both hunt down the problem as well as repair it. Your info may help out another rider with a similar issue.
