So I'm in the middle of a complete re-wire, and I found a pair of wires that was run to the left-side of the frame, to something mounted right at the rear axle.

Unfortunately, the previous hack-job resulted in the other end of the wire to be left unterminated, so I can't know what it went to, and I'm unfamiliar with the device.

Is that the speed sensor?

Most speed sensors are mounted on the front forks, with magnets being used to trigger the sensor, I've never seen any on the rear wheel(might be an after market installation).
