Kent, the relay is likely a good idea for a higher powered horn. I use the OEM replacement horn that z1enterprises.com sells and it is decently loud and doesn't take a lot of draw. The way the horn circuit works, if memory serves is the the horn is hot via a wire off the brown circuit. The horn button is a "switch" in the horn's ground line. MOST of the problems I have had have been in the horn button contact which can produce a real poor ground for the circuit. On some horn buttons, you can remove and clean the contacts but on my ST the horn button is a toggle type deal and I haven't figured out how to clean it or even remove it from the switchgear. My horn is pathetic most of the time but when it DOES ground properly, it is pretty healthy. I need to get a new horn button I guess or figure out how to clean it. Spraying with contact cleaner didn't do much. I also needed to adjust the noise screw on the horn for max beep.

I have the same problem as wiredgeorge with my horn switch. I am hoping to pull it out and clean the switch and get the contact cleaned up. To test the horn I just attached two wires with female spades directly to the horn tabs and touched them on the battery posts. Yow, that works. It's loud as new. I do sympathize with a louder horn desired. I've always wanted to hook up a mini electric air compressor and mount a super loud air horn (railroad airhorn!) somewhere on the bike to really scare the bejusus out of those unaware drifting drivers, but that might make matters worse. I'll probably just stick with road runner's beep beep. It sounds so authentically Jap, too.

I put a set of Stebel Magnums on the 1000. One is high note one is low note. Package says 139dB. I wired them through a Bosch automotive relay. I have to be very careful as they will scare the blankety-blank out of the cagers.
