Similar Wiring Harness?

Which other models would have a similar wiring harness to the 1979 KZ650sr (D2)? The previous owner of this bike chopped up this harness more than I thought when I was expecting the bike before I bought it. There's a couple 1979 harnesses on ebay, but I'd like to have more options if possible.

In general, which years are the most similar to the 1979 that I can use to find more parts?

I think you can go to Kawasaki.com. You can find out what parts are interchangeable, and what fits what. Exploded views, part numbers, very informational.

Unfortunately, I don't think you are going to find a really close harness to replace your main harness on your D2. Although, all of the main harnesses of this era are similar, none will but a direct 'plug n play' kind of replacement. Be advised, although the Kawasaki website is useful, it is not completely accurate. For instance, the Kawasaki site shows the D1 and the D2 as using the same part number. In reality, although these two models are electrically similar, there are important changes to the ignition switch (different wiring) and a change to several connectors - these 2 bikes do not have interchangeable main harnesses. Might want to contact www.cwswiring.com for a all new harness made for your model bike and substantial upgrades! :woohoo:

Depends on how dirty you want to get. Any 650 harness of same year will get you in the ballpark. Most harnesses will be very close as far as connectors and colors. A stripped down model from the factory usually uses the same harness as the loaded model,(Suzuki does this) extra wires are common because of this reason. Makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint.
