Ignition system was created by scraps
Long timer lurker, first time poster...
The vavles stems were bent on my 1980 Z250 G1 and a spring broke when removing them.
for less than the cost of replacement parts I brought a cheap running 1981 Z250 engine off ebay.

After I excitedly mounted the new egnine I realised they actually have a completley differnt ignition set up.
The 1980 uses a contact breaker ignigtion system the 1981 use a Transistor ignition system.
So normally I'd just plug the contact breaker lead into the coil but this wire isn't there...

On the bottom end the 1990 has the wires cut and unused, the 1981 these are there with the plug.
image of the bike as it's not exactly standard, I really wish I had a kick start on it right now...

Is there any way to rewire this to make it work?

Take the side cover housing the ignition off and post a piccy of whats in there.
If thats a condenser underneath the coil you'll be disconnecting it because its not needed with an electronic system.
You will need an ignitor from the 81 to switch the coil and by the sound of it you don't have one?
Its not difficult to rewire it.
